The St. Benedict Medal is one of the oldest and most revered sacramentals in the Catholic Church, known for its spiritual strength against evil and temptation. St. Benedict, founder of Western monasticism, is remembered for his wisdom, holiness, and unwavering faith.
The medal features Latin inscriptions that call upon God’s power and St. Benedict’s intercession. On one side, the letters C.S.P.B. stand for Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti ("The Cross of the Holy Father Benedict"). Around the edges are the initials of a prayer against evil: V.R.S.N.S.M.V. – S.M.Q.L.I.V.B. which stand for Vade Retro Satana! Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana! Sunt Mala Quae Libas. Ipse Venena Bibas! - “Begone, Satan! Never tempt me with your vanities! What you offer me is evil. Drink the poison yourself!”
Wearing the St. Benedict Medal is a visible sign of faith and a prayer for courage, peace, and divine protection in daily life.
The Rosary is a set of prayer beads, used to meditate on the mysteries from the life of Jesus and Mary. It came into existence in the year 1208, where it is believed that the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Dominic and presented it to him. The rosary is looked at as being a source of grace and spiritual protection.
